The newest musical project is ... "Malibu Bob's - Senior Sing-A-Longs!"

 

                                         Rob brings his set up into your group and performs an hour of sing-a-long favourites from yesterday!

                                         (Because the format is a sing-a-long and not a show, each group can see Rob on a weekly basis and never get bored!)

 

                                                    Participation:

                                                    When Rob performs his Senior Sing-A-Longs, everyone sings! 

                                                    How does Rob get such good participation from the group?

 

The secret behind Robs success is his music binders. Each binder holds 6 different song books.

Each book is a different selection of songs that makes up about 45 minutes worth of music.

 

Printed in large type that is easy to read, each page contains one song with all the lyrics

and even the chords off to the side. (this comes in handy for any musicians in the audience)

 

Upon arriving, each person receives a binder and instructed which of the 6 books to turn to.

Each book has a selection of classic tunes full of variety and comedy. 

 

At the end of the selected book, there is time for a few more songs. Rob lets the group choose songs from the other books. 

After the group has gone through all 6 books, (6 visits) Rob throws in a couple of visits where he takes requests from all 6 books

which creates a whole new set list.

 

Interaction: 

Always the character, Rob chats with the group,  gives a little history from each song and even throws in a little comedy

or magic as the situation allows.  If your group has a musician, Rob is always ready to have them join in from time to time.

At one performance, Rob noticed one gentleman with a harmonica, He asked him to play and Rob accompanied him with

a 12 bar blues riff. It was lots of fun and the harmonica player was thrilled to be able to show his stuff. Another time Rob

was told that one lady was a singer. He chatted with her before the show and got her up twice to take an extra mic and lead

the song.  Again, she was thrilled to be able to perform on the mic.

 

Gear:

Rob knows that not being too loud is the most important thing!

A small, professional sound system using only one speaker placed on the ground along one wall

allows Rob to get a volumeand sound that is good for him while at the same time not being too loud

for everyone.

 

While singing Rob plays a mixture of interesting instruments.

His main instrument is his acoustic guitar which has a muted sound that's not too tinny.

Finger picking rather then using a pic also goes a long way to keeping the volume at a fun level.

 

From time to time Rob also incorporates an amazing ukulele.  This is always a big hit as

a lot of senior groups have classes in ukulele and this allows them to see how one might

be used in a live performance. (Rob is also available to teach Guitar or Uke)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another popular instrument is Robs 6 string banjo. Played like a guitar, this banjo has a softer sound

and bass strings giving this instrument a sound that is more complex and versatile then a normal banjo.
